How do these treatments work?

Wegovy® and Mounjaro® support the body’s natural appetite-regulating hormones. They may help you:

What is Wegovy®?

Wegovy® contains semaglutide, which mimics a natural hormone involved in appetite regulation.

It may be suitable for people who:

  • Are new to prescription weight-management support
  • Prefer a well-established GLP-1 option
  • Meet clinical eligibility criteria after assessment
  • Appetite is quieter

In clinical studies, patients using Wegovy® alongside lifestyle support lost an average of around 15% of body weight over approximately 68 weeks.

What is Mounjaro®?

Mounjaro® contains tirzepatide, which works on two appetite-regulating pathways (GIP and GLP-1).

Some patients may experience:

  • Stronger appetite control
  • Increased fullness after meals
  • Enhanced metabolic support
  • Significantly less ‘food noise’

In clinical studies, patients using tirzepatide alongside lifestyle support achieved average weight loss of up to 20–22% over 72 weeks, with higher doses generally associated with greater weight reduction.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION

These treatments are not suitable if you:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have certain thyroid conditions (including medullary thyroid cancer or MEN2)
  • Have specific gastrointestinal conditions

Common side effects can include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, or constipation, particularly during dose adjustments. These are discussed fully during consultation so you know what to expect.

CLINICAL ELIGIBILITY

Prescription weight management medications are not suitable for everyone.

You may be considered if you:

  • Have a BMI of 30 kg/m² or above, or
  • Have a BMI of 27 kg/m² or above with a related health condition such as:
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Raised cholesterol
  • Sleep apnoea

Final suitability depends on:

  • Medical history
  • Current medications
  • Previous treatment approaches

Prescriptions are issued only when clinically appropriate.
