Your testosterone instructions depend on the product you have been prescribed.
Androfeme, Tostran and Testogel may all be prescribed as part of specialist perimenopause and menopause care when clinically appropriate, but they are measured and used differently. This page explains the general safety principles, including handwashing, drying, transfer precautions and missed doses.

Safe-use basics that apply to testosterone topical treatments
Testosterone gels or creams are applied to clean, dry, intact skin. Your prescriber may advise rotating application sites to reduce local irritation or unwanted hair growth in one area. Avoid applying to broken, irritated or recently shaved skin unless your product instructions specifically say this is appropriate.
The measuring method differs by product. Androfeme uses an applicator. Tostran is usually measured using a full metered pump at the prescribed frequency. Testogel is usually measured as a prescribed fraction of a sachet. Your own prescription instructions matter more than any general online example.
A simple application routine
- Apply only the amount prescribed for you.
- Let the area dry before dressing.
- Wash your hands with soap and water after applying.
- Cover the application site with clothing once dry, especially before close contact with others.
- Follow product-specific advice about showering, bathing, swimming or exercise after application.
How to reduce transfer to other people
Testosterone can transfer from skin to skin before it has dried or if the application area is touched repeatedly. Take extra care around partners, children, pets and anyone who is pregnant or could become pregnant.
Allow the product to dry, wash your hands and keep the site covered where advised. Avoid letting anyone touch the application area. If skin-to-skin contact is likely, follow your product instructions on washing or covering the area first.
What if accidental contact happens?
If someone else touches the application site before it has dried, wash the area of their skin with soap and water as soon as possible. If repeated exposure is suspected, or if a child, pet, pregnant person or someone who could become pregnant may have been exposed, contact LIVVE or a healthcare professional for advice.
Seek advice promptly if the exposed person develops unexpected acne, hair growth, genital changes or other symptoms that concern you.
What if I miss a dose?
Follow the missed-dose advice on your prescription or product information. In general, do not double up to make up for a missed dose unless your prescriber has specifically told you to. Taking extra can increase the chance of side effects or high blood-test results.
Flammability, storage and travel
Some testosterone gels are alcohol-based and may be flammable until dry. Keep away from naked flames, smoking and high heat until the product has dried. Store your medicine safely, out of sight and reach of children, and keep it in its original packaging when travelling.
Never share testosterone with anyone else, even if their symptoms sound similar. Testosterone prescribing should be based on an individual clinical assessment, monitoring plan and product-specific instructions.
When to ask LIVVE for help
