How-to video guide

How to apply your Evorel patch

Watch before applying your first patch. The video will show where to place Evorel, how to prepare the skin, how to press the patch into place, when to change it and how to rotate application sites.

Key application steps

  • Choose two regular change days, three or four days apart, and keep the patch on continuously between changes.

  • Remove the old patch before applying the new one.

  • Open the pouch only when you are ready and apply the patch straight away.

  • Choose clean, dry, cool, healthy and preferably hair-free skin on the trunk below the waist, such as the lower abdomen or buttocks.

  • Do not apply on or near the breasts, on damaged or irritated skin, in a skin fold, at the waistline or where tight clothing may rub.

  • Do not use cream, moisturiser, lotion, oil, gel, talc or powder on the area before applying the patch.

  • Avoid touching the sticky surface. Smooth the patch on without wrinkles and press firmly with the palm of your hand for at least 10 seconds, especially around the edges.

  • Use a different area each time and leave at least one week before using exactly the same site again.

  • You can normally bathe, shower, swim and exercise while wearing Evorel. Avoid scrubbing the patch and keep it covered from direct sunlight.

  • If adhesive remains after removal, gently rub it away or use soap and water; a small amount of baby oil may also help.

Always follow the dispensing label and patient information leaflet supplied with your patches. Contact LIVVE if any step is unclear.

BENEFITS AND SUITABILITY

How Evorel may help

Evorel replaces some of the oestrogen that falls during perimenopause and menopause. It can help relieve symptoms caused by lower oestrogen levels.

  1. Reduce hot flushes

May help make hot flushes and sudden feelings of heat less frequent or intense.

  2. Ease night sweats

May help reduce night sweats as your menopause symptoms become better controlled.

  3. Support better sleep

Sleep may improve when symptoms such as hot flushes and night sweats are better controlled.

  4. Improve menopause-related symptoms

Oestrogen replacement can help relieve a range of symptoms associated with falling oestrogen levels during perimenopause and menopause.

  5. Help vaginal symptoms

Systemic HRT may help some vaginal symptoms, although dryness, irritation or urinary symptoms can sometimes need an additional local vaginal treatment.

  6. Support bone health

Oestrogen helps protect against bone loss after menopause. Evorel 50, 75 and 100 may also be used to help prevent osteoporosis in some postmenopausal women at increased risk of fracture when other treatments are unsuitable.

  7. No daily application

Evorel is changed twice a week, so you do not need to remember to apply oestrogen every day.

WHAT IS EVOREL?

An oestrogen patch worn continuously and changed twice a week.

Evorel contains estradiol, an oestrogen that replaces some of the hormone that falls during perimenopause and menopause.

The patch releases estradiol steadily through the skin into the bloodstream. It is worn continuously and changed twice a week.

Your clinician will recommend a strength based on your symptoms, medical history, previous HRT and response to treatment. Your dose can be adjusted if needed.

WHERE EVOREL FITS

How LIVVE’s main HRT options differ

Evorel is an oestrogen-only patch. Your clinician will consider the route, format, hormone combination, change schedule and whether separate progesterone is needed.

  • Tablets

    Taken once each day

May suit patients who prefer a familiar oral medicine and are suitable for oral HRT.

    • No skin application
    • Oestrogen-only and combined options
    • Daily routine

Things to consider: tablets pass through the digestive system and may not be preferred for some medical histories.

  • Gel or spray

Applied to the skin each day

May suit patients who want transdermal oestrogen without wearing a patch.

    • Flexible or pre-measured dosing
    • No patch adhesive
    • Daily application

Things to consider: drying time, application technique and transfer precautions differ by product.

What to expect

Some symptoms may improve within the first few weeks

Everyone responds differently. Evorel starts delivering oestrogen through the skin once it is applied, but improvements in menopause symptoms can be gradual. Using your patches consistently is important when judging how well your treatment is working.

  1. The first days

Focus on getting used to applying your patch and establishing your two regular change days each week. Some side effects, such as breast tenderness, headache, skin irritation or changes in bleeding, can occur when using HRT.

  2. The first few weeks

You may begin to notice an improvement in menopause symptoms during the first few weeks of treatment. Hot flushes and night sweats may become less frequent or less intense.

  3. After the first month

If your symptoms are still not well controlled, or you are experiencing side effects, your treatment can be reviewed. Your clinician will consider how you are responding before deciding whether any change is needed.

  4. Review and adjust

Sometimes the right next step is to continue with the same strength and allow more time. At other times, your clinician may recommend adjusting your strength, reviewing your progesterone or progestogen, or considering another form of HRT.

YOUR LIVVE PATHWAY

How assessment and prescribing works

We keep the process clear so you understand your route, dose and progesterone plan before treatment begins.

  1. Complete your assessment

Tell us about symptoms, periods, menopause stage, medical history and treatment preferences.

  2. Clinician review

Your clinician considers whether patches, gel, spray or tablets are most appropriate.

  3. Personalised prescription

If suitable, your patch strength and any required progesterone are prescribed.

  4. Ongoing support

You will receive guidance on starting treatment, access to LIVVE if side effects or bleeding concern you, and reminders when your HRT review or repeat prescription is due.

Dose and routine

Wear one prescribed patch continuously and change it twice weekly.

Use Evorel exactly as prescribed and follow the leaflet for the approved application areas.

The aim is the lowest effective strength that controls your symptoms

Evorel is available in four strengths, but treatment is not a progression through every option. Your clinician will recommend a strength based on your symptoms, previous HRT, medical history and individual treatment plan.

  • Start with your prescribed strength

Use the exact Evorel strength shown on your dispensing label and change your patch twice a week on your usual change days.

  • Give your treatment time to work

Some menopause symptoms may begin to improve within the first few weeks. Your response can then be reviewed to decide whether your current strength is right for you.

  • Review symptoms and side effects

Your clinician will consider how well your symptoms are controlled, any side effects, bleeding pattern, skin reactions and how you are getting on with your overall HRT plan, including progesterone or another progestogen where needed.

  • Your strength can be adjusted

You may stay on the same strength, or your clinician may recommend increasing or reducing it depending on your response to treatment. Do not change strength, add extra patches or alter your dose yourself unless your clinician has advised you to.

WHEN TO CONTACT LIVVE

Ask for advice if your symptoms, bleeding or health change

  • Symptoms are not improving, or you would like to discuss your response to treatment.

  • Side effects are persistent or difficult to manage.

  • Bleeding becomes heavy, prolonged or unexpected.

  • You are unsure whether your progesterone plan is correct.

  • You repeatedly miss patch changes or find the patch inconvenient.

  • You want to discuss switching to a patch, spray or tablet.

Safety first

Use Evorel as part of your prescribed HRT plan

Your LIVVE clinician will review your symptoms, medical history, bleeding pattern, previous treatment and whether progesterone is needed before recommending Evorel.

Do not change your patch strength or use additional patches unless your clinician has advised you to.

Side effects

Side effects and when to ask for help

Focus on getting used to applying your patch and establishing your two regular change days each week. Some side effects, such as breast tenderness, headache, skin irritation or changes in bleeding, can occur when using HRT.

Contact LIVVE if
  • Side effects are severe or difficult to manage

  • Bleeding is heavy, prolonged or concerns you

  • The patch repeatedly lifts or irritates your skin

Understanding womb protection

Will I also need progesterone?

Evorel 25, 50, 75 and 100 contain oestrogen only. If you still have your womb, you will normally need progesterone or another progestogen to protect the womb lining.

If you have had your womb removed, progesterone is often not needed, although your clinician will confirm what applies to you.

  • Separate progesterone or progestogen

Options may include Utrogestan, Gepretix, Nalvee or another clinically appropriate medicine.

  • Hormonal coil

A suitable progestogen-releasing coil may sometimes provide womb protection.

  • Combined patch regimens

Evorel Conti contains oestrogen and progestogen in every patch. Evorel Sequi alternates two weeks of oestrogen-only Evorel 50 with two weeks of Evorel Conti in each 28-day cycle.

Changing treatment

Get advice before changing your patch strength.

Do not change your patch strength or use additional patches unless your clinician has advised you to.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Which Evorel strengths does LIVVE offer?

LIVVE offers Evorel 25, 50, 75 and 100 micrograms/24 hours. Your clinician will recommend the strength that best suits your symptoms, previous HRT, medical history and response to treatment. Use the strength shown on your dispensing label and do not change your dose yourself.

How often do I change an Evorel patch?

Change Evorel on the same two days each week, three or four days apart. For example, change it on Monday and Thursday. Remove the old patch before applying the replacement and continue without a break between packs, as prescribed.

How long does Evorel take to work?

Some people begin to notice an improvement in menopause symptoms within the first few weeks. Everyone responds differently, so it can take time to see how well your treatment is working for you. If your symptoms are not improving or you are experiencing side effects, your clinician can review your treatment and decide whether your patch strength or wider HRT plan needs adjusting.

Will I need progesterone with Evorel?

If you have a womb, you will normally need progesterone or another progestogen to protect its lining. Follow the schedule prescribed by your LIVVE clinician. After a hysterectomy, it is usually unnecessary, although a history of endometriosis may affect this decision.

How are Evorel 25, 50, 75 and 100 different?

Evorel 25, 50, 75 and 100 release 25, 50, 75 and 100 micrograms of estradiol respectively over 24 hours. Higher-strength patches are larger. Your clinician will aim for the lowest effective strength; use the one on your dispensing label.

Where should I apply Evorel?

Apply to clean, dry, cool, healthy skin on the trunk below the waist, such as the buttocks. Avoid the breasts, irritated skin and tight waistbands. Do not apply creams or talc first. Change the application site each time and follow your pack leaflet.

What if my patch falls off?

Replace it with a new patch and keep your usual change days. After a bath or shower, let your skin cool first. Contact LIVVE if patches repeatedly come off or you need replacements.

Can I swim or shower with Evorel?

Yes, you can bathe, shower, swim and exercise while wearing Evorel. Avoid scrubbing the patch or wearing tight clothing over it. If it comes off, follow the replacement advice above.

Is Evorel the same as Evorel Conti or Evorel Sequi?

No. Evorel 25, 50, 75 and 100 contain oestrogen only. Evorel Conti supplies oestrogen and a progestogen in every patch. Evorel Sequi uses Evorel 50 for the first two weeks, then Evorel Conti for the next two weeks of each 28-day cycle. Your clinician will explain which regimen suits you and the expected bleeding pattern.

Can I switch from a gel or spray to Evorel?

A switch may be suitable after a clinical review. Your start date depends on your current HRT regimen. Your LIVVE clinician will specify when to stop the gel or spray, when to apply your first patch, and your strength and progestogen plan.

Can I choose my Evorel strength?

You can discuss your preferences with your LIVVE clinician, who will prescribe the strength after assessing your needs. It may be increased or reduced following review. Do not change strength or add patches yourself.
