A new non-injectable weight-management option

Wegovy Tablets for Weight Loss

A once-daily prescription tablet that can help reduce hunger, increase fullness and support sustainable weight loss, with clinical guidance at every stage.

Wegovy tablets contain semaglutide. They are prescribed only after an assessment of your health, current medicines, weight history and treatment goals. The way you take the tablet is important because food, drinks and other medicines can affect how much is absorbed.

Wegovy® tablets

Eligibility and clinical assessment

Could Wegovy tablets be suitable for you?

They may be considered for adults living with obesity, or some adults living with overweight alongside a weight-related health condition. Suitability still depends on your wider health, medicines and ability to follow the daily dosing routine.

  1. Weight and health history

Your BMI, previous weight-management attempts and weight-related health risks are considered.

  2. Medical suitability

Your clinician reviews diabetes, diabetic eye disease, digestive conditions, gastroparesis or delayed stomach emptying, gallbladder problems, kidney or liver problems, pancreatitis and other relevant risks.

  3. Your other medicines

Your clinician reviews diabetes, diabetic eye disease, digestive conditions, gastroparesis or delayed stomach emptying, gallbladder problems, kidney or liver problems, pancreatitis and other relevant risks.

  4. Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Wegovy is not used during pregnancy or breastfeeding and must be stopped well before a planned pregnancy.

  5. Your morning routine

You need to fast for at least eight hours and wait after taking the tablet before food, drinks or other tablets.

  6. Your goals

Your plan should focus on health, function and sustainable progress rather than a promised amount of weight loss.

How Wegovy works

It helps regulate appetite and fullness.

Semaglutide acts like the natural GLP-1 hormone and works on areas of the brain involved in appetite. It can help you feel fuller for longer, reduce hunger and make cravings easier to manage.

It also slows stomach emptying, which can contribute to fullness but may cause digestive side effects, particularly while the dose is increasing.

It should not remove the need to eat. Regular, nourishing meals, adequate protein and enough fluid remain important.

Dose progression

A gradual four-stage pathway

The usual starting dose is 1.5 mg once daily. Any increase is considered after at least one month and only when clinically appropriate.

  1. Start at 1.5 mg

Build a reliable morning routine and learn how your appetite and digestion respond.

  2. Review response

Your clinician considers side effects, appetite, food intake, weight progress and medicine timing.

  3. Increase gradually

The licensed steps are 4 mg, 9 mg and 25 mg, with at least one month at each level.

  4. Maintain and review

The usual maintenance dose is 25 mg daily, but your clinician may keep you at a previous dose if needed.

Taking your tablet

Take one tablet once daily.

The timing matters. Eating, drinking or taking other tablets too soon can reduce semaglutide absorption and may affect how well treatment works.

  • Fast for at least 8 hours before taking it.

  • Take it on an empty stomach, usually after waking.

  • Swallow the tablet whole.

  • Use only a small amount of water, up to 120 mL.

  • Wait at least 30 minutes before food, drinks or other oral medicines.

  • Do not split, crush or chew the tablet.

  • Do not take more than one tablet a day.

Side effects and safety

What you may notice, and when to get help

Digestive side effects are common, particularly while your dose is increasing. They are often manageable, but persistent or severe symptoms need clinical advice.

  • Common effects

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, indigestion, abdominal discomfort, headache, dizziness and tiredness can occur.

  • Contact LIVVE

Speak to the team if symptoms persist, worsen, affect eating or drinking, or make it difficult to take your medicine correctly.

  • Seek urgent help

Get urgent advice for severe persistent abdominal pain, serious dehydration, a severe allergic reaction, sudden or partial loss of vision, or severe constipation with stomach pain, bloating, vomiting or inability to pass wind or stool.

Tell LIVVE about gastroparesis or delayed stomach emptying. Semaglutide may not be suitable if gastroparesis is severe, and it can increase the risk of more serious digestive side effects in some people.

Do not increase the dose because weight loss has slowed. Poor absorption, medicine timing, side effects, nutrition and other factors should be reviewed before treatment changes.

Supporting healthy weight loss

Protect nutrition and muscle while appetite is lower

A good programme is about more than eating less. LIVVE should help you maintain nourishing intake and habits that can continue beyond medication.

  • Protein

Include a useful source at meals to support muscle maintenance and recovery.

  • Fibre

Increase gradually alongside fluid to support bowel health and manage constipation.

  • Hydration

Drink regularly after your 30-minute waiting period, especially if you have vomiting or diarrhoea.

  • Strength and movement

Combine regular activity with resistance exercise where appropriate for your health and ability.

Your LIVVE pathway

How assessment, prescribing and follow-up work

Whether you prefer tablets or injections, the treatment decision should follow a proper clinical assessment rather than being based on format alone.

  1. Complete your assessment

Tell us about your health, medicines, weight history, previous treatments and goals.

  2. Clinical review

A LIVVE clinician checks eligibility, safety, medicine interactions and whether tablets fit your routine.

  3. Prescription and supply

If approved, the prescribed strength is dispensed with clear instructions for safe use.

  4. Ongoing support

Reviews cover appetite, side effects, daily adherence, nutrition, weight progress and dose suitability.

Choosing a treatment format

How Wegovy tablets compare

A non-injectable option may suit some people, but daily fasting and timing requirements are important. Your clinician can help you compare the practical and clinical differences.

Other weight-management options compared with Wegovy injections
Option Format How it fits
Wegovy® tablets Once-daily oral semaglutide tablet No needle is required, but the daily timing routine must be followed carefully.
Wegovy® injection Once-weekly semaglutide injection May be discussed if it better suits your health, preferences or previous treatment.

Are Wegovy tablets the same as Wegovy injections?

They contain the same active ingredient, semaglutide, but they are taken differently and the milligram strengths are not directly interchangeable. The tablet also contains an ingredient that helps semaglutide pass through the stomach lining, and its absorption is more variable than with an injection. Switching must therefore be clinically supervised.

Is the Wegovy pill as effective as the injection?

Both forms contain semaglutide, but they have not been compared directly in a head-to-head clinical trial. Your decision should also consider the daily fasting routine, injections, side effects, medical suitability and personal preference.
