Benefits and suitability

How Elleste Solo may help

Elleste Solo replaces some of the oestrogen that falls during perimenopause and menopause. It may be considered when oral oestrogen is clinically appropriate and acceptable to you.

  1. Reduce hot flushes

May make sudden waves of heat, flushing and sweating less frequent or intense.

  2. Ease night sweats

May reduce overnight sweating and help you wake less often.

  3. Support sleep

Sleep may improve as night sweats and other symptoms become better controlled.

  4. Improve mood and wellbeing

Low mood, irritability or anxiety linked to hormonal change may improve.

  5. Help vaginal symptoms

It may help dryness or irritation, although local vaginal treatment may still be needed.

  6. Support bone health

The 2 mg strength also has a licensed role in preventing osteoporosis in selected postmenopausal women when other options are unsuitable.

What is Elleste Solo?

A once-daily oestrogen-only HRT tablet.

Elleste Solo contains estradiol, a form of natural oestrogen used to replace some of the hormone that falls during perimenopause and menopause. It is prescribed to relieve symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats, sleep disruption and other symptoms linked to low oestrogen.

It is available in 1 mg and 2 mg strengths. One tablet is taken daily without a tablet-free break unless your prescriber gives different instructions. Elleste Solo 2 mg may also be considered for osteoporosis prevention in selected postmenopausal women when alternative treatments are not suitable.

Elleste Solo does not contain progesterone. If you have a womb, a separate progesterone or progestogen is usually prescribed for part or all of each cycle to protect the womb lining.

Where Elleste Solo fits

Where this treatment fits within your HRT options

There is no single HRT that is right for everyone. The best option depends on your symptoms, menopause stage, bleeding pattern, medical history, whether you have a womb and whether oestrogen alone or combined HRT is appropriate.

  • Sequential combined HRT

Oestrogen every day with progestogen in part of the cycle

Often considered when periods are continuing or have only recently stopped.

    • Monthly treatment cycle
    • Usually an expected withdrawal bleed
    • May use one combined product or separate medicines

Things to consider: a regular planned bleed is usually part of sequential treatment.

Sequential combined HRT comes as tablets and patches. Your clinician will help choose the best option for you.

  • Continuous combined HRT

    Oestrogen and progestogen used continuously

May suit postmenopausal patients who need both hormones without a planned monthly withdrawal bleed.

    • Both hormones used every day
    • No planned monthly bleed once settled
    • Available as combined products or separate medicines

Things to consider: spotting can occur during the early months, and continuous exposure to a progestogen may cause side effects for some people.

Continuous combined HRT comes as tablets and patches. Your clinician will help choose the best option for you.

Oestrogen-only treatment

Why might separate progesterone be needed?

Elleste Solo contains estradiol only. If you still have your womb, a progesterone or progestogen is usually prescribed alongside it to protect the womb lining.

Your clinician will decide whether that protection should be used for part of each month or continuously, based on your menopause stage, bleeding history and overall HRT plan.

  1. Estradiol

Replaces some of the oestrogen that falls during perimenopause and menopause and helps relieve symptoms.

  2. Progesterone or progestogen

Protects the womb lining when systemic oestrogen is used by someone who still has a womb.

  3. One personalised plan

The Elleste Solo strength, progesterone schedule and review plan are prescribed together according to your clinical needs.

What to expect

Improvement is usually gradual

Some symptoms may begin to improve within the first few weeks, but it can take up to 3 months to judge the overall benefit of Elleste Solo and whether the strength is right for you.

  1. The first few weeks

Hot flushes, night sweats and sleep disruption may begin to ease. Headaches, breast tenderness, nausea, bloating or spotting can occur while your body adjusts.

  2. By 6 to 12 weeks

You may notice a clearer change in symptom control, sleep and day-to-day wellbeing. Some symptoms improve sooner than others, and vaginal symptoms may still need local treatment.

  3. At your review

Your clinician will review symptom improvement, side effects, bleeding and how well your progesterone plan is working before recommending whether to continue or adjust treatment.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What is Elleste Solo?

Elleste Solo is an oestrogen-only HRT tablet containing estradiol. It is available in 1 mg and 2 mg strengths.

How often do I take it?

Take one tablet daily, at around the same time each day, unless your prescriber gives different instructions.

What is the difference between 1 mg and 2 mg?

They contain the same type of oestrogen at different strengths. Your clinician will choose the lowest effective dose appropriate for you.

Do I need progesterone with Elleste Solo?

If you still have your womb, you will usually need a separate progesterone or progestogen to protect the womb lining.

What if I miss a tablet?

If it is less than 12 hours late, take it when remembered. If more than 12 hours have passed, leave it out and take the next tablet at the usual time. Do not double the dose.

How long does it take to work?

Some symptoms may improve within a few weeks, but it can take up to 3 months to assess the overall benefit.

What side effects might I notice?

Common effects can include headaches, breast tenderness, nausea, bloating, fluid retention or changes in bleeding. These often settle as your body adjusts, but contact LIVVE if they are persistent, severe or concerning.

Will I bleed while taking Elleste Solo?

This depends mainly on whether you have a womb and how your progesterone is prescribed. Sequential progesterone usually causes a planned monthly bleed, while continuous treatment aims to become bleed-free once settled. Spotting can occur when starting or changing HRT.

Why might a patch, gel or spray be recommended instead?

Tablets are convenient for many people, but a patch, gel or spray may be preferred depending on your medical history, blood-clot risk, migraines, side effects and personal preferences. Your clinician will recommend the most appropriate route.

Does Elleste Solo contain lactose?

Both strengths contain lactose. Elleste Solo 2 mg also contains Sunset Yellow (E110), which can cause allergic-type reactions in some people.

Ready to understand your HRT options?

A LIVVE clinician can help you compare oral and transdermal oestrogen, select the appropriate strength and create the right progesterone plan if you have a womb.
