What can help with Mounjaro, Wegovy or Foundayo side effects?

Smaller meals, eating slowly, drinking regularly and avoiding very rich or greasy foods can help with common digestive symptoms. Fibre and gentle activity may help constipation, while keeping meals modest and avoiding lying down after eating may reduce reflux. Contact LIVVE if symptoms persist, worsen, affect eating or drinking, or make you unsure about your next dose.

Side effects should be managed, not endured. The aim is to find a treatment routine that supports progress while still allowing you to eat, drink and feel well enough to continue safely.

This includes Wegovy tablets and Foundayo

Wegovy tablets and Foundayo can cause similar GLP-1-related digestive side effects, but they are different medicines. Wegovy tablets contain semaglutide and require a specific fasting routine. Foundayo contains orforglipron and can be taken without food or water restrictions.

Why do side effects happen?

Mounjaro, Wegovy and Foundayo affect appetite pathways and can slow the rate at which food leaves the stomach. This can increase fullness and reduce hunger, but it can also contribute to nausea, reflux, bloating and changes in bowel habits.

Symptoms are often more noticeable when treatment begins or after a clinically approved dose increase. Large meals, rich foods, dehydration, eating quickly or increasing fibre too suddenly can make some symptoms worse.

Important

Side effects are not proof that treatment is working better. Stronger symptoms do not mean better weight loss.

How long do side effects usually last?

Many digestive side effects improve over several days or weeks as the body adjusts. They may return temporarily after a clinically approved dose increase.

There is no fixed settling period for everyone. Contact LIVVE if symptoms are worsening rather than improving, continue to interfere with daily life, or prevent adequate eating and drinking.

Common side effects

  • Nausea

Feeling sick, queasy or uncomfortable after eating.

  • Constipation

Less frequent, harder or uncomfortable bowel movements.

  • Diarrhoea

Loose or frequent stools, sometimes with cramping.

  • Reflux and bloating

Heartburn, acid taste, burping, gas or abdominal pressure.

  • Reduced appetite

Less hunger or food interest, which can become problematic if intake is too low.

  • Vomiting

Being sick can quickly affect hydration and essential oral medicines.

  • Headache or dizziness

May be linked to dehydration, low intake, glucose changes or another cause.

  • Injection-site reaction

Redness, itching, bruising or tenderness can occur with injections.

  • Hair shedding

May occur during significant weight loss and needs wider clinical context.

What may help nausea, reflux and bloating?

  • Eat smaller meals rather than waiting until very hungry.
  • Eat slowly and stop when comfortably satisfied.
  • Avoid very large, greasy, fried or rich meals.
  • Stay upright after eating rather than lying down immediately.
  • Drink regularly, taking smaller sips if large drinks feel uncomfortable.
  • Notice whether certain foods, alcohol or late meals trigger symptoms.

For Wegovy tablets and Foundayo

Wegovy tablets: do not change the fasting routine, water amount or waiting period to manage nausea without checking the product instructions or asking LIVVE.

Foundayo: no fasting or food/water timing restrictions are required. However, orforglipron delays gastric emptying and can affect the rate of absorption of oral medicines. Tell LIVVE about all medicines you take, particularly medicines with important timing or dose requirements.

A pharmacist may recommend a suitable short-term treatment for reflux, nausea, constipation or diarrhoea after checking symptoms, medicines and health conditions. Regular antacids, laxatives or anti-diarrhoeal medicines should not be started without advice when symptoms are severe, recurrent or unexplained.

What may help constipation?

  • Drink regularly throughout the day.
  • Include fruit, vegetables, oats, wholegrains or pulses as tolerated.
  • Increase fibre gradually rather than suddenly.
  • Keep gently active where possible.
  • Respond to the urge to open your bowels rather than delaying.
  • Ask a pharmacist or LIVVE about suitable treatment if lifestyle measures are not enough.

Do not simply add more fibre

Severe bloating, vomiting or inability to pass wind needs clinical assessment rather than more fibre.

Diarrhoea, vomiting and hydration

Vomiting and diarrhoea can lead to dehydration. This is particularly important for people with kidney problems, diabetes or medicines affected by fluid balance.

  • Dark urine or passing urine less often.
  • Dizziness, weakness or headache.
  • Dry mouth or intense thirst.
  • Feeling faint when standing.
  • Difficulty keeping fluids down.

Use small, regular sips if drinking a full glass feels difficult. Contact LIVVE for repeated vomiting or diarrhoea, and seek urgent advice if fluids cannot be kept down or significant dehydration develops.

What if appetite becomes too low?

Small nutrient-dense meals or snacks may be easier than large plates. Contact LIVVE if fullness or nausea prevents adequate intake or treatment worsens a previous difficult relationship with food.

  • Manageable appetite change

Smaller portions feel satisfying, cravings are quieter and regular useful meals remain possible.

  • Needs review

Meals are regularly missed, food feels frightening, protein or fluids are difficult, or weakness, dizziness or excessive fatigue develops.

Tell LIVVE about eating concerns

Disclose any current or previous eating disorder, binge eating, purging, severe food restriction or significant anxiety around weight and eating. These concerns may affect suitability and the support required.

Can treatment cause hair loss?

Hair shedding can sometimes occur during significant or rapid weight loss. It may relate to the physical stress of weight change, low protein or nutrient intake, menopause, thyroid health, iron deficiency or another cause rather than a direct medicine effect alone.

Contact LIVVE if hair loss is marked, persistent or accompanied by fatigue, scalp symptoms or other health changes. Review may include weight-loss rate, nutrition, menstrual history, menopause symptoms and whether blood tests are appropriate.

What about injection-site reactions?

Mild redness, itching, bruising or tenderness can occur where Mounjaro or Wegovy injections are given. Rotate injection sites and follow the pen instructions supplied with the medicine.

This does not apply to Wegovy tablets or Foundayo

People using tablets may still experience digestive or allergic side effects, but not an injection-site reaction.

What about low blood sugar?

Mounjaro, Wegovy or Foundayo used alongside insulin or certain diabetes medicines can increase the risk of low blood sugar. Symptoms may include sweating, shaking, hunger, dizziness, confusion, weakness or a racing heartbeat.

Follow the treatment plan given by the diabetes team and keep any recommended hypo treatment available. Contact a clinician promptly if low blood sugar occurs or glucose readings change significantly. Do not alter insulin or other diabetes medicines without advice.

Without diabetes medicines

True hypoglycaemia is less common. Dizziness, weakness or headache may still result from dehydration, very low food intake or another cause and should be reviewed if persistent.

When can side effects affect dose decisions?

A dose increase should never be automatic. A clinician may recommend remaining at the current dose for longer, delaying an increase or reviewing whether treatment remains suitable if side effects have not settled.

  • Whether symptoms are improving, stable or worsening.
  • Whether food and fluid intake remain adequate.
  • Constipation or dehydration risk.
  • Appetite response and weight trend.
  • Other health conditions and medicines.
  • Whether treatment can be used correctly and consistently.

Do not change treatment yourself

Do not reduce, increase, skip or stop treatment without advice. Contact LIVVE before the next dose if symptoms make you unsure what to do.

Menopause symptoms or medication side effects?

Nausea, bloating, fatigue, mood changes, sleep disruption and appetite changes can overlap with menopause symptoms, HRT effects, low food intake, dehydration, stress or another health problem.

A review may need to consider timing, HRT use, bleeding, nutrition, sleep, bowel symptoms and whether the change followed starting or increasing weight-loss treatment.

If you use Foundayo and take an oral hormonal contraceptive, tell LIVVE. Orforglipron may reduce the effectiveness of oral hormonal contraception, so a non-oral method or an additional barrier method is advised for 30 days after starting Foundayo and for 30 days after each dose increase.

Do not assume every new symptom is caused by treatment

Persistent bloating or appetite loss accompanied by unexplained bleeding, anaemia, a lasting change in bowel habit, increasing abdominal pain or another unexplained symptom should be medically assessed.

Gallstones and gallbladder symptoms

Gallstones and gallbladder inflammation can occur during weight loss, particularly when weight falls quickly. Seek urgent clinical advice for persistent pain under the right ribs or in the upper abdomen, especially with fever, vomiting, yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine or pain spreading towards the shoulder or back.

What is manageable, what needs review and what is urgent?

  • Often manageable

Mild nausea, earlier fullness, mild constipation, temporary reflux or bloating, or short-lived diarrhoea.

  • Contact LIVVE

Persistent or worsening symptoms, repeated vomiting or diarrhoea, difficulty eating or drinking, ongoing constipation, dizziness, reduced urination or dose uncertainty.

  • Urgent help

Severe persistent abdominal pain, serious dehydration, severe allergic symptoms, sudden vision changes, or severe constipation with pain, vomiting and inability to pass wind.

Severe, persistent stomach pain may be pancreatitis

Seek urgent medical advice, particularly if pain spreads to the back or occurs with nausea or vomiting.

Reporting suspected side effects

Patients and healthcare professionals can report suspected medicine reactions through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme. Reporting does not replace contacting LIVVE or seeking urgent medical help.

Frequently asked questions

Is nausea normal on Mounjaro, Wegovy or Foundayo?

Nausea is common, especially when treatment starts or after a dose increase. It should remain manageable and often improves as the body adjusts. Contact LIVVE if it is persistent, worsening, stops you eating or drinking, or occurs with repeated vomiting or severe pain.

What helps constipation?

Drink regularly, keep moving as tolerated and increase fibre gradually rather than suddenly. Contact LIVVE or a pharmacist if constipation persists, becomes painful or occurs with vomiting, marked bloating or inability to pass wind.

Can Mounjaro, Wegovy or Foundayo cause reflux?

Yes. Slower stomach emptying, larger meals, rich foods and lying down soon after eating can contribute. Smaller meals, slow eating and avoiding late or greasy meals may help.

What if I cannot eat enough?

Contact LIVVE. Very strong fullness, nausea or fear of eating can cause low fluid and nutrient intake. Small nutrient-dense meals may help temporarily, but suitability needs review.

When should I seek urgent help?

Seek urgent medical advice for severe persistent abdominal pain, repeated vomiting with dehydration, severe allergic symptoms, sudden vision changes, or severe constipation with pain, vomiting, marked bloating or inability to pass wind or stool.

How long do Mounjaro, Wegovy or Foundayo side effects last?

Many common digestive symptoms improve over several days or weeks, although they may return after a dose increase. Contact LIVVE if symptoms worsen or prevent adequate food and fluid intake.

Can Mounjaro, Wegovy or Foundayo cause hair loss?

Hair shedding may occur during significant or rapid weight loss and can also relate to nutrition, menopause, iron deficiency, thyroid health or another cause. Contact LIVVE if it is marked or persistent.

Can Mounjaro, Wegovy or Foundayo cause low blood sugar?

The risk is greatest with insulin or certain diabetes medicines. Seek advice for sweating, shaking, confusion, dizziness, weakness or a racing heartbeat, and do not change diabetes medicines without guidance.

Are Foundayo side effects the same as Wegovy tablet side effects?

They can overlap, but the medicines are different. Wegovy tablets contain semaglutide and Foundayo contains orforglipron. Both can cause digestive side effects such as nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, vomiting, indigestion and abdominal discomfort. Their practical instructions also differ: Wegovy tablets require a specific fasting routine, while Foundayo can be taken without food or water restrictions. Foundayo also has specific advice for people using oral hormonal contraception, so tell LIVVE about all medicines and contraception you use.
